Dealing With Fear
Fear is a powerful feeling, but it’s much more than that; it’s a spiritual force that the devil uses to try and rob us of our victory in Christ. Whether you’re dealing with a small nagging fear or an overwhelming presence of panic and anxiety, there’s help for you.
First, hear these two words – a command to you from the Lord: DON’T PANIC!
Obey those words right now and refuse to panic. As you obey and keep reading, the peace of God will begin to flood your mind and heart.
The way to deal with fear is not to run from it, but to look it in the face and resist it, refusing to yield to the feelings that have come. That takes faith but you can do it and you must do it.
Did you know that God’s Word forbids us to yield to fear when it comes? Notice in your Bible how many times the phrase “fear not” occurs. You may think you couldn’t possibly be free from fear, but the Bible says that we’ve been made sons of God, so we would never again be slaves to fear (see Romans 8:15). As you learn to resist fear, it will help you say things like, “I will not be afraid. I refuse to fear. I’m a God-pleaser, and God is pleased with faith, not fear.”
Panic attacks are not God’s plan for your life. Anxiety is not from God. God has given us many promises in His Word that assure us of our victory. David wrote in the Psalms, I looked to the LORD, and he answered me. He saved me from everything I was afraid of (Psalm 34:4).
When God is your help, there are many reasons not to be afraid. Here are a few of those reasons:
1. He’s with you.
I will not be afraid. You are with me. Your shepherd’s rod and staff comfort me. Psalm 23:4
The presence of the Almighty is not only a comfort to us, it is a force that surrounds us that the enemy cannot penetrate. Read Psalm 91, and you’ll be convinced that you’re safe because He’s with you.
2.He cares for you.
Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. 1 Peter 5:7 (AMP)
3.He loves you.
Most people know it to be true, but if we really believe that the Creator of all things loves us as much as He does, how could we stay afraid?
There is no fear in love. Instead, perfect love drives fear away. 1 John 4:18
